SUCCESS STRATEGY:

“Work on your business a little every day.”

From a young age, Gillian Weinrib of Toronto, Ontario knew how to put her money to work so that she didn't have to work for her money. But a series of difficult circumstances left her life and finances in tatters. That's when she discovered Arbonne and rebuilt from the ground up!

When I was 14, my father taught me to put my money to work, instead of working for my money. I got it and I did it, a little bit every month. In 1988, I graduated from business school with a small fortune saved, after paying for university, travelling abroad every summer since the age of 15, working a maximum of two months a year and investing wisely.

In my mid-20s, I travelled to Eastern Africa, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and “recuperated” on the island of Zanzibar. There I sat on the beach, watching children use their fingers as pencils to do their homework in the sand. They noticed my journal and pen, raced over to me and before I knew it, I was teaching a class! It was then that I discovered I was meant to teach others. Since that day, 20 years ago, I have been an educator of life skills and mathematics, and I had not thought about any other line of work. I love bringing math alive and seeing the light in my students' eyes.

Then it rained — pouring rain. I experienced life-shattering problems with health, then marriage and, finally, finances. It was a disaster. It was like a movie, but it was real and it was my life.

My friends and family supported me as best they could, but I had to do the work to survive. First and fortunately, I got my health back. Then I had to deal with my finances. I loved teaching, but a teacher's salary wasn't going to provide me with the opportunities I wanted for my children and myself.

Shortly after ENVP Amy Sky joined the book club I belonged to, she began an Arbonne business and spoke to us about it. At first, she didn't follow up with me, as she didn't think I'd be interested. Why would a mathematician who doesn't wear makeup be interested in skin care? But my good friend Erica, who knew about the last few years of my life, encouraged me to talk to Amy about the business.

Amy gave me a NutriMinC® RE9™ tester set, but I wasn't interested. I thought, “Isn't serum for people my mom's age?” Then I reviewed the compensation plan. In a nutshell, if I help others, I will succeed and so will they! This spoke to me, so I jumped in with both feet. Worst-case scenario: I would have great products to use for a year or two. Best-case scenario: this was the vehicle I was looking for to get my life back on track!

I was told that if I did what my upline had done, I would have what they had. This was true on a much bigger scale than I ever imagined. But I had to believe it before I could experience it, and that was tough.

At first, it was hard to get out of my comfort zone. But I believed, trusted and copied my upline. I gave up time with my family in order to have more time with them later on.

Today, I teach math part time, live life full time, and work my Arbonne business in the nooks and crannies. David and our kids, Marlowe, Roark, Lauren and Jamie are my reasons Why.

To ENVP Amy Sky: I will always be grateful that you handed out those mini scrubs at our book club, and for all that you do.

To ENVP Sue Cassidy: Thank you for being the warm, fuzzy leader you are and for having belief big enough for us to borrow until we had our own.

To ERVP Linda Huntington: Thank you for starting me off on the right path with your top-notch Getting Started training, and for all the calls and “get back on track” talks.

To AMs, Amanda Fingerhut, Irena Hernandez, Sonja Melconian, Meaghan Douglas, Tamey McIntosh-Controneo, Kim MacGregor, Eva Chudolinska, Wendy Sokolowski and Vivian Shapiro: Thank you for trusting me and duplicating our team's system. I could never have done this without you. Your commitment to your teams and to this business is inspiring. I love that I love who I work with.
