SUCCESS STRATEGY:

“Honor your journey and embrace the obstacles.”

We all are faced with these two choices in life: to merely make a living or to design a life. For years, my husband, Craig and I tried hard to make a living. Now, with the help of Arbonne, we are designing our lives.

Although making a living gets us through every month, what most people really want in life often seems out of reach. Many would say they dream of traveling to different countries, making healthy life choices, living debt-free, owning a home, buying a vacation home, giving to or going on missions, building a retirement savings, preparing for children’s education, having the freedom to plan out their daily, weekly and yearly schedules or having more time to spend with those whom they love most. However, these dreams often get put on the backburner because in the process of making a living, there is often no time or resources left for dreaming of such things. In life, our days become devoted to surviving from paycheck to paycheck and working to support our families with little hope of getting ahead. Who can imagine even having the ability to design their own lives?

For years, my husband and I believed this about our lives. We worked at our jobs without a glimmer of hope of ever getting ahead, much less of being free to design our lives and do all that God had planned for us. Then, 19 months ago, all that changed. That was when I signed up and began a business with Arbonne. When I first joined, I never dreamed that I would be an ENVP! Before Arbonne, we worked in a local crisis pregnancy center and loved helping others. But we lived beyond our monthly pay and into the next month’s check, month after month and often had to dip into our savings or live off of credit cards to get by. I can tell you this is not an ideal way to live. The debt load was wearing us down and we could not see a way out. I remember the day when one of the kids had a field trip and we had to pay cash for the event. We had to go into their little wallets and scrounge around for change in our home in order to find enough money. We were so frustrated that our finances were so lacking. But we prayed and trusted that our needs would be met. Never did we imagine the answer to that prayer would be Arbonne!

It seemed like a far off wish that I did not dare allow myself to dream. But it soon became our only hope. We had to make Arbonne work, one way or another. However, the question became, was I willing to do what it took to be successful? Would I be able to get out of my comfort zone and allow myself to dream again? It was not until I was willing to honestly work on myself, that my business took off.

I had a lot of obstacles that held me back from success. My biggest problem was that I was afraid to talk to people. I did not know anyone and did not feel comfortable talking to people. I was very shy. Besides, all of my contacts were in Canada, while we temporarily lived in Florida, and my upline was out-of-state. Another problem I faced was believing I could confidently talk to people about the Arbonne products. After all, I had troubled skin myself and did not feel comfortable sharing Arbonne with people when they could see my skin issues. I also could not see myself as a leader because I had never been one. Not only that, I never owned a business and did not finish college. How was I going to make it to the top of Arbonne? In fact, I always had low self-esteem and struggled with my purpose in life growing up. I was placed for adoption and adopted by a wonderful family, but I always wondered who I was and why I was here. Even though I longed for purpose and wanted to help others, I first had to learn to believe in myself, to embrace the truth of who I was and why I was here. The experience of building a successful business has molded me into a stronger person and restored in me high hopes, great vision and a belief in myself and in others. My past is no longer holding me back! I now have a dream to help others be free, to fulfill their destiny and to discover their inner strengths and purpose.

What did I do to move my business forward? I had to have a strong and motivating reason to get out of my comfort zone, so I made that rock solid. I combined that with having the belief and vision that I was going to the top. I believed there were people out there who wanted and needed this opportunity and needed me to find them. I asked myself if I would be willing to do anything it took, even commit to consistent activity and work hard to make it happen. The answer I received was a resounding, “Yes!”

Next, I set to work on myself. I had the right company, right product, right timing, right system, right compensation plan, but not the right me! I was the only variable I was in control of and had power to change. I prayed for wisdom and direction in my day-to-day activities. I listened to a great audio tape series. It changed my thinking about people and gave me the tools to help others. I also read and applied a few motivational books into my life. Arbonne is about changing lives, making others more important than yourself and becoming a servant to helping others succeed.

You can make this happen for yourself as well. You have the power to choose to stay where you are and make a living or you can design your life through all that Arbonne has to offer you, your family and your friends.

All along this journey, I have had an incredible support system. I have sought out positive people who believe with me and keep me focused.

First, I want to acknowledge my relationship with God. I have learned more and more about who I am through Him.

To my husband, Craig: You saw success and strength in me 17 years ago when we met and believed in me when I did not believe in myself. You have been my strong support through the ups and downs. I love living life with you! To our children, Matthew, Amanda, Julia and Lauren: You are my cheerleaders and have earned this with me. I know you have learned that we never give up on our goals and that we can make a difference. I love you all!

To ENVP Dr. Deanna Osborn: Thank you so much for seeing success in me when I did not and for always pushing me past what I could see. I love your vision, strength and friendship. You are one of my dearest friends and have become like a sister to me!

To ENVPs, Lisa Voorhies, Cathy Epperson, Lynn Hagedorn and Meloni Barkley: You have been so supportive throughout my journey. Thank you for continuing to keep me focused and on track. To be friends with women of such integrity is an amazing gift.

To ENVP Lisa Dickerson: You have lit up my world with your focus and drive to succeed in your Arbonne business. You are always looking forward and willing to do whatever it takes. I love your joy for life. To ERVP Cheri Connor: You are so much fun to work with. We have laughed so many times. To RVP Amy Craparo: Your drive to succeed and your focus on family have touched my life. You are both going Nation!

To ERVP Christine Buonocore: You have been such a leader from the start. I love your vision and belief in yourself and others. You are going to the top! To RVP Lisa Anderson: I am so glad to know you and work with someone who has such a positive focus and high ethical standards. Keep building to Nation.

To everyone in my central Region: Let us build all the way to the top. I congratulate you for having dreams and being willing to work for them. I believe in you! You are next and I am here to help!

To President Rita Davenport: Thank you for inspiring me to be myself and have fun! I love your style and your straightforward manner. You have a great ability to make each of us seem like we are the only Consultant in the business by making us feel so valued. I value your vision and belief in the strengths we have before we even know we have them.

To our Home Office team, especially Tonyta: You are co-partners with us in this business. Thank you for your dedication and professionalism.

To everyone reading my Eye on Arbonne story: Thank you for taking the time to read my story. There is really nothing special about me that makes me any different from you. My husband and I just wanted the potential to live debt-free, have the freedom to give abundantly and live victoriously. The difference is that we chose to do whatever it took to achieve those goals through our Arbonne business. What do you want for your life? Is it worth it to you to get out of your comfort zone and join me in designing your life through Arbonne? I know we can do this together!
