SUCCESS STRATEGY:

“Experience the satisfaction that comes from ignoring the excuses, no matter how valid, by focusing only on solutions.”

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would do something like this, or that I would find such fulfillment in it. When Amy Sky introduced me to this opportunity, I thought, "Oh my gosh ... she's doing what?" My shock and intrigue were the reasons I was willing to listen, at first.

I was not interested in adding anything to my plate. I had a full household with four children, and we were pregnant with a fifth. I was busy with my career as a singer and managing a thriving production company, along with all the work I did as a voice coach and judge on many popular television shows. Between my husband and me, we had four businesses and an ever-growing tribe.

After listening to the Presentation, there were a few things that sparked my interest. The idea of time leveraging has always made sense to me, and freeing up some time to enjoy with my children was a huge draw. Additionally, despite my public life, I had always been quite shy. I started thinking, "What an amazing opportunity to hone a skill, better myself and change my family's lives in the process."

I believe we all have many talents, but often once we've found one, we stop looking for others. This can create an unhealthy attachment to the talent, and our whole identity can become caught up in it. If this happens, the result can sometimes be an extremely fearful response when something else comes along that might take its place.

As a child, I grew up with two very different outlooks. With a father who experienced significant success in the music industry, I was surrounded by some amazing talent, but I also watched how that talent can be linked to a person's identity in such a significant way that they are willing to sacrifice everything for it. Because of this, my mother successfully convinced me to go to university to "have something to fall back on." After completing an Honors degree in Psychology, I still ended up pursuing music; however, I had gained an important understanding of the relationship between my musical talent and who I am. As much as I love music, it is only one part of me. I believe we can love, develop and enjoy equally the many facets of who we are, without them detracting from each other — whether that's being a musician, a mother, a wife, an entrepreneur, a friend, an athlete or anything else.

Was my Arbonne journey easy? Not always. I like to say it was "out of my comfort zone." I promoted to District Manger and was very close to Area Manager when my team quit ... and yes, I wanted to quit. It was then that I went to NTC, pregnant and sick and at a crossroads. Do I quit or start over? That was a year and a half ago. There were many other personal struggles and heartaches along the way, including the loss of a pregnancy and another difficult pregnancy, among other things. I could have quit and nobody would have blamed me, but I knew the excuses would only prevent me from being and doing all I was capable of.

Arbonne has taught me the value of patience and grace, the importance of accountability and commitment, and the satisfaction that comes from ignoring the excuses, no matter how valid, by focusing only on solutions. The jewelry, the car, the trips and the gifts that can be earned are awesome, but nothing can match how these lessons will fuel your soul and in doing so, change the essence of who you are, which will affect not only your Arbonne business, but everything you do.

I have been blessed with the most amazing support system. The first person I have to thank is my husband, who has been my cheerleader, my sounding board, my mentor and my biggest supporter. We have done this together and we've only just begun.

I also have to thank my family — my parents, my in-laws and, more importantly, our children. Without their understanding and support, we could not have achieved this.

I have to thank ENVP Amy Sky for sharing the opportunity with me and for demonstrating the value of grace, humility and the importance of being a great listener.

Thank you to my awesome upline, ERVP Linda Blum-Huntington, Sue Cassidy and Aldis Loreno. The support and leadership you constantly give has been my rock.

There is no other business I've seen where people help each other and team up "just because." I have two amazing crossline sisters, NVP Camilla Scott and Gillian Weinrib, who I've locked arms with, shared resources with, grown with and who even did some of my Presentations while I was giving birth! I also have to thank our Ontario pioneers, NVP Valerie Darien and my adopted Arbonne big sister, ERVP Maggie Eason, for your love and support along the way — I've learned so much from both of you.

And of course, my fabulous team that is made up of some of my dearest and oldest friends, Melodee, Christine, Julia, my sister Jennifer, my mother MaryJean, and my newer friends Judy, Cynthia, Jane, Magalie, Carolina, Alexa, and everyone else in my downline. I am humbled that you have chosen to lock arms with me. This is our car and our Region. We did this together and have shown everyone they can, too!
