SUCCESS STRATEGY:

“There is no ‘I’ll try’—there is only I will or I won’t.”

I am no different from the many other VPs who came to this business through their love of the products.

I was definitely not looking for another career. I was 56-years young and fully retired when I was introduced to these wonderful products. Dianne Zeck, my ERVP, passed me a NutriMinC® RE9® sample after a yoga class, and asked, “Will you just promise to try it?” I am a person who keeps my promises, and I went home that very day and tried the entire sample. Then I went online to discover a bit more about the company. After just two days, I called Dianne to ask how to purchase these products. I was a dream Client! I bought everything on sight, joined as a Consultant and brought friends to Dianne’s house to show them the products. I did, however, tell Dianne in no uncertain terms that I was not interested in the business opportunity. I have never been so wrong about something in my life!

I had spent 25 years as an executive in both the federal and provincial governments in Canada. I was fortunate to retire early, just before my 50th birthday. The only things I missed about work were a few friends and the big paycheque. I did not miss the long hours, the huge amount of stress, the worries about staff and budgets, the sleepless nights and the travel that kept me away from home. I was overweight and under-fit when I left government; I spent the first year of my retirement working to regain my health. I lost 44 pounds, found Bikram’s Hot Yoga, and started daily long walks. Then I did a most unexpected thing—I wrote a cook book and, with my physician husband’s help, a lifestyle book. The timing must have been just right, because both books became best sellers. The next five years of our lives were spent traveling and doing media interviews and book signings. We had a great, but very busy, time.

So when Dianne made me aware of the business opportunity with Arbonne, I was just slowing down after the book tours and not interested in starting a business. But life has a funny way of making you sit up and pay attention. I went on the Web site and read some Eye on Arbonne success stories. I was intrigued and impressed with the many women from all walks of life who had become successful in this business. I started thinking of the women in my life who might benefit, not just from the wonderful products, but from the opportunity to realize greater financial stability and maybe even financial freedom. I started to imagine the possibilities.

Imagine if I could support our young grandchildren in their extracurricular activities—ballet, judo, crafts and summer camps. Imagine if I could finance our grandchildren’s University without any loans or financial worries. Imagine if I could help my sisters and friends discover an opportunity to ease the financial stress in their homes and allow them to leave jobs they didn’t enjoy. Imagine if I could buy our dream winter vacation home in the California desert, so we could golf all winter long! All of a sudden it seemed to me that the potential for fun and for good was endless, if I just allowed myself to imagine the possibilities!

Dianne Zeck is a big part of why I decided to explore the possibilities. She wisely signed all of my friends as Consultants under me during my first month, even as I told her I was not interested in the business. She invited me to an Opportunity Presentation where ENVP Barbara Beaty and NVP Kathy Britton spoke with passion and intelligence about this company, these products and this opportunity. Dianne gave me interesting bits of information and then allowed me the time and space to discover for myself that this was the path I wanted to follow. We have become close personal friends in addition to business partners over the course of my journey.

I have not been a race horse. It is two and a half years since I decided to join the Arbonne family. I have experienced every kind of set back and disappointment. My sisters joined my team, and then left my team. Many of my friends thought I was crazy and were not interested in trying the products. I found business builders who became District Managers then lost interest, or became discouraged and left. Through it all I have learned a huge amount about myself and others. I have become a better person—more understanding of others. I have learned patience. I have learned to put the needs of others before my own foolish pride. I no longer worry about what others might think of me. I have learned that “no” really means, “Not right now, thank you.” I have learned that practice really does make everything easier—even the really tough things like calling friends or asking for help. Most of all, I have learned that any amount of self doubt or personal struggle is worth it to be able to share this wonderful gift. My advice to those of you reading this story is to be genuine; lead from your heart; just be yourself and open yourself up to imagine the possibilities.

My most heartfelt thanks go to my constant supporter, coach and cheerleader—my wonderful husband, Harv. Thanks also to ERVP Dianne Zeck, NVP Kathy Britton, ENVP Barbara Beaty and ENVP Donna Johnson, all of who encouraged and supported me in my journey. Rita Davenport has inspired me as she has inspired everyone who went before me. What a fantastic role model she provides for us all to emulate.

Thanks to my wonderful team! I am sure that I have the greatest team in this company! I have a huge and fun team in Australia—all of whom “get it.” I have business builders in England, all over Canada and in many states in the US. I am so fortunate to be able to travel and train and coach and get to know them. I am filled with deep appreciation for all the hard work of everyone on the team. Thanks, for their faith and trust in me, to EAM Di Saunders, AM Kimberley Janssen, EDM Chris Loveday, EDM Jodi Robertson, DM Sally Orpwood, DM Tennielle Williams, DM Joanne Keys, DM Kendall Page, DM Betty Holmes, EDM Nancy Young, DM Janet Wilkie, DM Phyllis Lang, DM Lea Gray, DM Harv Haakonson and to all the working Consultants and the many AMs and DMs in qualification as this goes to print. Each of you has what it takes to reach the top. Just imagine the possibilities and remember what our “T.E.A.M.” is all about—Together Everyone Achieves More.
