SUCCESS STRATEGY:

“Success is the result of deliberate decisions.”

In August of 2006, the last thing I needed was to bring anything new into my life, nevermind start a business. At the time, I was on maternity leave with my five-month-old son, Parker, while my husband was halfway across the country in an intensive training program for six months. To say I was overwhelmed would have been an understatement. If you think you don't have the time to do this business or that it's not the right time to start, you could not be more wrong. If I could start my business when I did with all the obstacles I faced, then anyone can do this as long as you commit 100% to finishing what you started.

Prior to finding Arbonne, I had been working in the corporate world of aviation. I began my career as a flight attendant and worked my way into management, including training and supervisory positions. I was very dedicated to my job, which demanded long hours and frequent travel, but I loved the benefits that came with working for an airline. After giving birth to my son and spending my days with him, I couldn't bear the thought of leaving him with someone else to return to the high-stress environment of my corporate job. I knew I needed something to challenge me, outside of the challenges of being a mother, but I had no idea what kind of opportunity would allow me to balance my home life and provide a fulfilling career.

A phone call from my friend, ERVP Jane Thibault, provided the answer. She told me about a skin care line she had recently tried and loved, so much so that she was considering the business opportunity behind it. We met while working together at the airline and I have always respected her for her integrity, wisdom and desire to help others succeed. If I could have dreamt up a perfect business partner, it would have been her. We met with her sponsor, NVP Krista Bernard, and learned more about the amazing ground-floor opportunity Arbonne has to offer. We saw the incredible potential in what was presented to us and jumped in together with both feet. I replaced my corporate salary in six months and earned my Mercedes-Benz in three years. When I celebrated my 10-year anniversary with the airline, I only received a lapel pin!

I built my business around nap and bed times for the most part. When this was not possible, I brought Parker along with me and did the same after I had my little girl, Lauren, in 2009. I feel very strongly that this is why they are both so outgoing, with a smile for everyone they meet. We have met so many wonderful people as a result of my business — people who may not have come into our lives otherwise. I am constantly amazed at the kind of professional women and men this business attracts. I am blessed to have amazing people on my team and I take great pride in watching as each of them learns and grows from this experience. The products may be results driven, but so is the personal growth that comes along with them. I am proud of the example I am setting for my children, that with hard work and determination you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. Life is always throwing obstacles our way and the only control we have is our reaction to them. I have learned to embrace them as opportunities to build character, and not allow them to be roadblocks to achieving my goals.

Achieving this level of success is impossible to do on your own. It is because of my team that I have the honour of being the first RVP in Newfoundland, and for that I am so grateful.

To AMs, Danette Robichaud, Lisa Vad and Louisa Gillespie: You inspire me every day to raise the bar of leadership. Receiving the keys to your own Mercedes-Benz is right around the corner!

To DMs, Shannon Bloom, Elaine Rolls, Joanne Dooks, Alisha Reid, Pamela Whalen, Sherry Hull, Cathy Sexton and Wendy Brinston: Decide you will reach your goals, no matter what the obstacle, and success will be yours.

To all of my Clients and Consultants: My business is incredible because of you.

To Mom and Dad: Thank you for your support and unwavering belief in me from day one. It has made all the difference.

To my husband's family: Thank you for your support of all things Arbonne and the countless hours babysitting. Your help has truly been invaluable. Patti and Darrell, I could not have done it without you!

To the “fab five,” Krista Bernard, Jane Thibault, Heather Smith-Dacey and Sara Bagnell: I value your friendship and leadership, and appreciate all we've learned from one another since that first meeting in the coffee shop. How far we've come!

To my sponsor, Jane: You are my dearest friend, my ally, my rock. Without you, I would be lost.

To my husband, Michael and our children, Parker and Lauren: Thank you for understanding that time away from you in the short term means all the time with you in the long term. I am blessed to have you in my life and I love you with all my heart.

Are you thinking, “What if it doesn't work for me?” I challenge you to ask yourself, “What if it does?” I urge you to stop thinking and start doing. This is the right company, the right products and the right time. Will there be challenges? Of course. Remove the option to quit! Since beginning my business, I have overcome obstacles, challenges, rejections and moments where I wanted to give up, but I removed the option to quit from the start. The rewards of persistence, determination, consistent activity and personal growth are amazing and worth it all!
